Baicells Announces Private LTE Network to Connect TV Broadcasters On-Site at the DNC in Chicago

  • August 26, 2024

Plano, Texas, [August 21] - Baicells Technologies, a leading provider of 4G LTE and 5G NR cellular network infrastructure for operators and enterprises, and their partner Pente Networks, have delivered a turnkey Private LTE Network for broadcasters to use during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this week.

The mobile Private LTE Network, using CBRS, enables the local broadcasters on site to have secure, dedicated network capacity, independent of the venue’s own connectivity infrastructure, to broadcast video to the required production facilities. This private network relieves broadcasters from having to compete for connectivity with the thousands of event attendees who are also expecting to be connected. This setup offers a major advantage for a use case that is highly sensitive to delay and requires a minimum level of capacity to operate.

Baicells and its partner Pente Networks, delivered a turnkey solution bundle which incorporates the Pente Networks EPC and Orchestration Platform with the Baicells Nova430i CBRS radios connecting to broadcasting staff inside the venues. Advances in technology, operations, and economics enable a solution bundle like this to be easily transported to all kinds of locations at minimal notice and then quickly deployed and turned up with minimal effort. This portable but highly scalable “Network in a Box” brings secure and high-performance wireless connectivity to all kinds of venues and locations helping to unlock new use cases like video broadcasting and production.

Also think of music festivals, temporary healthcare facilities operating in the field, remote or temporary retail needs, or construction sites – all have immediate use cases for such a connectivity solution.

“Providing a private cellular solution to enable broadcasters covering the DNC offers them a superior experience, by avoiding congestion and the inconsistency of “best effort” Wi-Fi in the convention arenas,” said Gerry Ford, Baicells Americas CEO. “In addition, private cellular networks offer dedicated capacity with a consistent quality of service for related production activities and even staff communications.”

The highly innovative element enabling this use case is a portable, IP-based, video distribution and transport device from the company LiveU. The LiveU Reliable Transport (LRT™) includes a portable computing system, connected via network SIMs, worn by the cameraman as a small backpack to easily allow the broadcaster to transit the venue as required. This system then can process and transport the IP video streams over the venue’s private network to on-site production facilities or even off site as required.

Baicells is exhibiting at the annual Mobile World Congress Americas in Las Vegas October 8-10. Visit the Baicells booth, 1108, to learn more about this use case and its portfolio of 4G and 5G network solutions.
